I should have made this post on Monday, but we were still recovering from the event and catching up with the lost work hours for our client’s projects.
For those of you who missed this event, it was held on June 14th in the Vancouver Public Library. To learn more you can read this blog post.
I guess the pictures from the Vancouver Joomla Day speak for themselves, we did have a great time all together. There were concerns in the past that Joomla! wasn’t nearly as recognized as WordPress or Drupal in the Vancouver area, and this event busted the Myth! Based on the multiple counts, we had about 120 people show up. The ratio of ladies to gentlemen were about 1 to 3; we certainly hope to have more ladies involved in these type of events in the future.
Based on the community feedback, about 11 people showed up (correct me if I’m wrong) at the last Joomla Day held in Toronto, so I think it is safe to announce the Vancouver Joomla Day as being the largest one ever in Canada so far.

We are about to start the Vancouver Joomla Day. We have 88 guys and 23 ladies so far (111 total) in the room which is more than the number of people who attended the Tazzu WordPress Camp. Who thought that Joomla! is not as well known as Drupal or WordPress in Vancouver? We proved them wrong!

Just heard from Wendy that all the Vancouver Joomla Day Tshirts are sold out.
By the way, the Tickets are 25$ only if purchased online, otherwise they are 30$ at the door.
Based on the Ticket sales we estimate that around 110 people will show up for sure, but we do have enough room for up to 200 people so if you haven’t purchased your tickets, it is still not too late: do it now!
Let your facebook friends know by doing an RSVP
Did I hear door prizes? yes! bring in your business cards and there will be a draw at the end of each presentation. That means you can win prizes offered by the following companies. I’m not exactly sure what the gifts are, but building websites with Joomla! 1.5 is one of them!

If you have developed any project using the Joomla! CMS you are qualified to have your own 15 minutes of fame under the spotlight at the Vancouver Joomla Day event. We have 5 available spots for you. If we receive more than 5 we reserve the right to choose 6 projects out of them. We will however think of ways for the remaining submitted projects to get noticed as well.
15 minutes may not seem like a lot, but if you organize your speech as follows you can make the best use of it. To give you some tips have the following information ready about your project:
- An online Demo (with easy to remember URL)
- The elevator speech description of your project. Tell us what it is about in 2-3 lines max.
- Give us a link to more detailed descriptions online
- Give us some print hand outs about your project
- Throw in some quick surprising facts and interesting highlights about your project
You don’t have to focus on the software development aspects of your project. You can talk about the organizational behavior, social, and marketing aspect of your project too. Tell us what problems you were trying to solve and what were your challenges.
To submit your project you can simply post a url and description as a comment on this blog post
