After the great success of WordCamp Vancouver, a friend of ours Gary Jones of BlueFur is going to host WordCamp Fraser Valley for all the WordPress bloggers out that way - very cool!

This event is for anyone that has an interest in blogging and WordPress in general. Beginner’s will learn more about what blogging is and what WordPress software can do. Expert WordPress users will be able to network and learn from other expert bloggers.

If you have been following Raul’s blog, you probably know that he writes reviews about Vancouver’s restaurants, and apparently he has accepted the challenge of writing a review for this little restaurant in East Vancouver called the Brave Bull which sells steak for 8.95 and according to the www.BuzzBishop.com blog “it’s serving food. And people are leaving the place alive.”

I’ve offered to make a few blog posts and create a facebook event for the SteakCamp so many of us could arrange to show up at the Brave Bull on Monday evening. You know when it gets to Food and Friends I am there, so bring in your cameras and appetite so we can have a joly good time together.

I should have made this post on Monday, but we were still recovering from the event and catching up with the lost work hours for our client’s projects.

For those of you who missed this event, it was held on June 14th in the Vancouver Public Library. To learn more you can read this blog post.

I guess the pictures from the Vancouver Joomla Day speak for themselves, we did have a great time all together. There were concerns in the past that Joomla! wasn’t nearly as recognized as Wordpress or Drupal in the Vancouver area, and this event busted the Myth! Based on the multiple counts, we had about 120 people show up. The ratio of ladies to gentlemen were about 1 to 3; we certainly hope to have more ladies involved in these type of events in the future.

Based on the community feedback, about 11 people showed up (correct me if I’m wrong) at the last Joomla Day held in Toronto, so I think it is safe to announce the Vancouver Joomla Day as being the largest one ever in Canada so far.

Just heard from Wendy that all the Vancouver Joomla Day Tshirts are sold out.

By the way, the Tickets are 25$ only if purchased online, otherwise they are 30$ at the door.

Based on the Ticket sales we estimate that around 110 people will show up for sure, but we do have enough room for up to 200 people so if you haven’t purchased your tickets, it is still not too late: do it now!

Floating World is a Joomla Development and Hosting company located in Victoria BC. Aaron Handford from the Floating World is also one of the Presenters at the Vancouver JoomlaDay. Bruce Byfield is a long time Tazzu member and a contributing editor for the SourceForge sites Linux.com and the IT Manager’s Journal. Bruce is quite active in the Vancouver tech community, and we have had the plesure of meeing him in many previous JoomlaCamp, WordCamp, OpenWeb Conference, and Tazzu networking events. Bruce will be writing about the Vancouver Joomla Day event.
