Covering the Tazzu WordPress Camp

Update: Event was a blast. Some people have been so kind and taken so many awesome pictures:

Update 8:30 PM: John Chow did a fantastic presentation and we all headed to the Flux bar for a drink.

Update 7:53 PM: Greg Andres didn’t show up, I hope he is somewhere safe and happy. I tried to steal his spot to talk about blogs and blogospheres, but people really wanted to listen to John Chow instead, and who am I to steal the spot light from John Chow? I mean not yet. :P

The notorious John Chow is presenting now, and I’m sure many wished to be here.

Update 7:32 PM: Bruce Byfiled is presenting on joys of Amateur blogging. I am not the only one who has noticed that everyone here is using a Mac. Hey I just got a link from Jeremy. Watch the live presentation here:

The password is: tazzu-test

I wonder where Greg Andrews is. He is our next presenter and I can’t find him in the room.

Robert made a great comment. When we use our own blog installations once we stop paying our rent (hosting cost) it could evaporate but when we use a service like www.WordPress.com we can hope that it will last forever and our grandchildren could learn about our observations.

Update 7:12 PM: Kulpreet Singh is presenting on using WordPress to create a custom library, catalog, or other mashup-type sites. Internet connection got a lot faster all of a sudden. Kulpreet’s presentation was quite impressive I must say.

Update 6:55 PM: taking a 20 min break

Update 6:35 PM: Duane Storey is presenting. about WordPress and mobile blogging ( mostly iPhone ). Rebecca (604) is wondering if there is a power outlet close to her, I guess we can relocate her seat after the break close to the power bar. The Internet connection is really slow here. Our friend Jeremy (Infinity) is recording or creating a steaming video. It would be nice if he could share the link with us so we could post it here.

Update 6:14 PM: Rebecca Bollwitt is presenting, and I’ll do my best to cover it. We had a little bit of issue with the projector connection.

Update 6:10 PM: Monica Hamburg was presenting using my laptop which is why I couldn’t blog ;). Her presentation was awesome.

Update 5:37 PM: Jeff Kee is presenting . Miss604 and I are live blogging the event. She is doing a far superior job than I do.

If you are uploading pictures of the event on the Flickr or Videos on the YouTube please tag them “tazzuwordcamp” so everyone would be able to find them.

Thank you :D

Meet us at the Flux Modern Bistro after the Tazzu WordPress Camp

There has been a change of plan for the after party venue. We were initially planning to go to the close by Steamworks, but unfortunately they have been all booked. Steamworks is taken over by the accountants in the tax season, we had no idea there were this many accountants in town!

fluxbistro.pngInstead we are going to the Flux Modern Bistro (162 Water Street - 604.678.8800). Our friends at the Automattic have paid for the first round of beer for all the attendees. You’ll learn more about the after party at the Tazzu WordPress Camp.

So are we all going to fit at the Network Hub?

Ok, here’s the scoop… nearly 90 people have RSVPed on our Facebook event announcement, and the question that keeps coming up is whether or not all these people will be able to fit at our event location - The Network Hub.

The reality is that we were essentially planning the Tazzu WordPress Camp event for maybe 35-40 people, and had no idea that the concept would prove to be this popular. Especially, since the number of attendees suddenly peaked just recently, making it too late for us to switch venues.

In short: yes there will be shortage of room. We sincerely apologize for this. Please come early if you require a seat! There will probably be just enough seats for half of us. Although last week I had a phone conversation with Minna at the Network Hub and she told me that they’ve had events with more than 100 people at their location.

What is certain is that Jen, Ash and I will be at the Network hub ahead of time to move furniture around, gather every chair available to us, and perhaps maybe push the walls out a bit!

For the next Tazzu WordCamp, we promise to get a larger venue because now we know that a lot of us out there are quite interested in the concept.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and participation! See you there!

Once again the Network Hub address is:

3rd floor - 422 Richards Street
Vancouver, B.C.
V6B 2Z3

Any more sponsors interested?

Update: within minutes after posting this announcement we were contacted by you guys and raised enough to cover all the costs and even more. We think we are good to go now, and thank you so much for all of you who have made your financial and word of mouth contributions. Looking forward to seeing you all tonight!

Turns out that close to 90 people have RSVPed on the facebook which is a greater number than what we were originally expecting. Tazzu WordPress Camp is a community inspired and supported event. If you are interested to be one of our paid sponsors please feel free to contact me (rastin [at] tazzu.com or 778 885 0807 ), and then the blogging community will love you forever for helping us make this event possible.

Thank you :)

Tazzu WordPress Camp in Vancouver

tazzuwordpresscamp

On Wed. April the 30th from 5:30 to 8:30pm we are getting together at the Network Hub to share and exchange tips and how-tos on Wordpress and blogging in general. We will also learn how to reach a larger audience by using a Wordpress blog in conjunction with other web services and Social Networking websites such as Flickr, YouTube, Slideshare, Facebook, and Google Calendar.

DSC_0102

WordPress is perhaps the most commonly used Blogging web application on the web. We blog to express ourselves, share our thoughts, or promote our businesses. WordPress is one of the simplest forms of Social Media Content Management Systems where one or few people write blog posts, and many readers are able to provide feedback through comments. The social aspect of a blog makes it a very effective Communication and Marketing tool. Wordpress is an Open Source software released under the GPL and many aspects of it relies on the wisdom of the crowds. Wordpress comes with a large list of plugins developed by community members. Many successful blogging techniques and methods have also been created as a result of community members who have collectively built on each other’s ideas and creativity.

Many WordPress users are coming from a non-technical background, so a group of community members on Tazzu.com suggested we have a WordPress Camp event to share tips and learn more about this great Social Media CMS.

What is the format of the event?

The Event is 3 hours long. 7 Presenters get 20 minutes each to share their ideas. There will be two 20 min. breaks, so we could socialize a bit and have a laugh.
