Vancouver’s first Joomla Demo Camp

Hello Tazzu Members,

On Feb 26th we will be gathering together to discuss and learn how to setup and maintain a small website using the Joomla! CMS version 1.5 . We will be discussing Information Architecture and Template Design methods, tips, and ideas. You will also get to meet other people and learn about their experiences about the content management systems.

Date: Saturday, Feb. 26th 2008 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Location: At the Network Hub ( 3rd floor - 422 Richards Street, Vancouver, BC, Canada ). Our good friends Minna and Robert have been so kind and given us their beautiful work space for the entire day, and we’ll get free Wi-Fi Access too! Thank you Network Hub!

Joomla DocCamp - finer than a marshmallow roast!

Joomla DocCamp Vancouver BC Canada

Well, the Vancouver Joomla DocCamp was a huge success!

More than a dozen of us camped out at Network Hub for the day… and between the free-flowing Timmy’s coffee and delicious donuts - conversation wound its way around Social Networking, Open Source, Content Management Systems vs Blogs, and Drupal, Wordpress, and Joomla of course!

With free wireless access, a beautfully warm & dry place to hang our hats, an extension cord to plug our laptops into (slightly resembling an octopus afterwards), and an exciting new Joomla product, it couldn’t help but be a near perfect DocCamp - all that was missing was the campfire and marshmallows!

Tazzu’s 2nd Networking Event at Milestones!

We had so much fun at our last Tazzu Networking Event (Nov. ‘07) that we decided to once again hold it at Milestones (Yaletown) — only this time in the Lounge!

We’ll still get the same great food, and the same great service, only with more room to move around!

Vancouver Facebook Developers' GarageOur good friend Gerald Bauer is organizing the 2nd Vancouver’s Facebook Developers (& Designers) Garage event at the Vancouver’s film school. The event will take place in Theatre 1 accessible from the main foyer. Reception will be in place to assist all guests.

I attended the previous event and after viewing few quite amazing (and not so amazing) presentations I got to meet some really wonderful people such as Boris Mann, Roland Tanglao, Miss 604, my great business associate Ash Sanieyan, and of course Gerald himself. So this event will not only contribute to your development knowledge, but also a great opportunity to meet some really good people in the Vancouver’s technology and business community.

I will be there taking some pictures and blogging. Let’s see what our town’s developers have been cooking up lately.

Facebook probably has more than 60 million users by now. Some of us spend at least 15 minutes or more there, so it is part of our everyday life. Facebook is also a neat framework for developing web applications, and I know quite a number of developers who develop for Facebook including Gerald, Ash and myself (shameless self promotion!)

Btw: this is Gerald’s website. He is a very experienced Ruby on Rails developer and he has been very active brining the community of Ruby developers together, and Tazzu is gladly collaborating to spread the word. :)

Joomla! DocCamp is an exciting community effort, where a number of Joomla Developers and writers will be getting together to write documentation for the new Joomla! 1.5 framework.

Joomla! Doc camp will be happening simultaneously in many cities around the globe. So far, Vancouver BC, Brussels, and Washington DC have indicated they will be involved in this great community event.

January 19th 2008 Vancouver Joomla! DocCamp

We will be collaborating and writing documentation for Joomla, and having fun in the process. There will be live Blogging, Flickring, posted YouTube videos, interviews with the participants, and possibly a live video stream so that our counter-parts around the world can join us (virtually) in the fun!

Business Community

There is nothing better than the business of bringing people together! Communities are what hold small businesses together!

One would think that with the rise of online communication people will increasingly hide inside their cocoons and replace face-to-face human interaction with less personal electronic communications. I personally don’t buy into that argument at all!
