Congratulations Techvibes!

Celebration!

Yesterday we received the news that our online networking neighbour Techvibes has been purchased, and is slated for a make-over and re-launch.

Over the next six months, Techvibes Media Inc. will focus on improving and updating the current Techvibes.com website to take advantage of its strong brand awareness across Canada. A complete overhaul of the website is planned for the fall of 2007 and will include the integration of technology product reviews, enhanced localization features, and user powered content.

Techvibes has been one of the first initiators in Vancouver’s Technology Community who’ve helped people appreciate and understand the value of business networking and making new contacts and friends. We all have many memorable stories to tell about Techvibe’s past glory days.

1. Utilize Your Profile Efficiently
Work your profile! Have a proper avatar, add website links to your signature, and list your preferred title. In a virtual world that is the only way that people can learn more about you, and eventually trust you. Hiding behind a vague image, and username doesn’t mean ‘business’ to most people.

Saving Mom - a 10 year old’s mission

Tagg with His MomThis week I had the opportunity to create a simple web page called saving mom for a 10 year old boy named Tagg.

Tagg contacted me through his Mom - Honnor Moore, a client who quickly became a dear friend.

Over the past 8 years, Tagg has watched his mom struggle with the pain and crippling effects of rheumatoid arthritis. I can’t imagine how difficult this is for him, and how helpless he must feel.

Now, this courageous boy is doing something about it. He is asking for help to raise the funds - $25,000.00 - to get his mom to a special hospital in Mexico, called the Sanoviv Medical Institute.

April 24th - Tazzu Networking Party

Tazzu Networking Event

With Tazzu’s networking meetings being a hit, we figured it was time to schedule another get-together. Everyone is invited - members and non-members! :)

First, a little Tazzu Networking Party history:

Tazzu’s first official networking meeting was held last winter on Oct. 20th 2006, at the Shark Club in Vancouver. The turn-out was amazing. We even managed to exchange business cards amidst the cheering that was going on for our very own Vancouver Canucks.

Tazzu’s second networking meeting was held on March 26th 2007, at The Frog and Firkin on West Broadway - one of Tazzu’s members turned us on to this venue. The food is great, and the casual atmosphere is perfect for our group.

Tazzu - safe & fun networking environment

Protecting the ForumsOne of the unique characteristics of Tazzu is the importance placed on maintaining a safe and fun environment for the members to network.

Previously, as a Moderator at a different networking forum, I watched helplessly while, over the course of 6 months, the forum became unhealthy and sadly deteriorated.

That particular forum was subjected daily to copious amounts of spam, trolls who incited members to absolute frustration, and bouts of all-out verbal war.

This situation could have been prevented if some basic rules and guidelines were not only set in place but also wisely, carefully and respectfully enforced.

BlueFur.com - Little Monster, Big Heart

BlueFur.comI’m sitting here taking inventory of the past few days’ events, realizing that this week’s activities wouldn’t be complete without focusing the spotlight on a small hosting company based in Surrey BC:
~ BlueFur.com ~

Earlier, this week I had the pleasure of joining Gary Jones of BlueFur.com at a Networking Luncheon.

I’ve always thought of Gary as being very kind, but when the topic of BlueFur’s recent name change surfaced, I also saw in him a man of integrity. The opportunity to rant was presented to him, but he simply let it pass by. Few would have taken that road.

At the end of a delicious meal, when the bills were being handed out, Gary intercepted and paid for several of the guests including myself… which just now leads me to think I should have ordered dessert! ;)
