Tazzu WordPress Camp in Vancouver

tazzuwordpresscamp

On Wed. April the 30th from 5:30 to 8:30pm we are getting together at the Network Hub to share and exchange tips and how-tos on Wordpress and blogging in general. We will also learn how to reach a larger audience by using a Wordpress blog in conjunction with other web services and Social Networking websites such as Flickr, YouTube, Slideshare, Facebook, and Google Calendar.

WordPress is perhaps the most commonly used Blogging web application on the web. We blog to express ourselves, share our thoughts, or promote our businesses. WordPress is one of the simplest forms of Social Media Content Management Systems where one or few people write blog posts, and many readers are able to provide feedback through comments. The social aspect of a blog makes it a very effective Communication and Marketing tool. Wordpress is an Open Source software released under the GPL and many aspects of it relies on the wisdom of the crowds. Wordpress comes with a large list of plugins developed by community members. Many successful blogging techniques and methods have also been created as a result of community members who have collectively built on each other’s ideas and creativity.

Many WordPress users are coming from a non-technical background, so a group of community members on Tazzu.com suggested we have a WordPress Camp event to share tips and learn more about this great Social Media CMS.

What is the format of the event?

The Event is 3 hours long. 7 Presenters get 20 minutes each to share their ideas. There will be two 20 min. breaks, so we could socialize a bit and have a laugh.

Do you have tips and knowledge to share?

Please submit your topic as a comment on this blog post. Community members will vote and choose the 7 topics that they would like to learn more about.

NOTE: DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS THURSDAY APRIL 17th - MIDNIGHT

    Rastin,

Put me down for a talk. Tentative talk, “The Joys of Amateur Blogging.” The talk would be about why, although I write professionally, I mostly keep my blog amateurish, and why I think non-monetized blogs are a good thing in general.

  14. 14 Erika Rathje

    I plan on attending, too!

  15. 15 Pete Quily

Sound’s interesting, I’ll be there. Minna’s place is always a great place for meetings.

Thank you for setting this up.

    Vida

I will be speaking on how to make money off a Wordpress blog. :)

Successfully launched a WordPress site used by several thousand people from around Metro Vancouver. Looking forward to using Wordpress on future projects.

I would like to attend if there is still space. For 2 people please.

  29. 29 thrind

This is like the fourth local WordPress event I can’t go to (alas, I am bound for Banff) but some day I intend to talk to whomever will listen about the technology and ideas behind http://thrind.xamai.ca (which is, believe it or not, WordPress).

  30. 30 Peter

  36. 36 Alfred Hermida

Great idea. I’ll be there. We use Wordpress at the UBC School of Journalism for the student website, http://thethunderbird.ca/, as it offers a powerful but easy to use CMS to showcase the student work.

  39. 39 Raul

Obviously you know I’ll be there, and although I will not be live-blogging, I will be doing a post-WP camp re-cap, most likely using some of the techniques and tips that I’ll be learning at the camp :)
Maybe I’ll present at the NEXT WP Camp :)

  40. 40 Rastin Mehr

@Barry - We will be having future Wordpress events too

@Raul - That would be wonderful, Thank you! You are so awesome :)

  41. 41 Morten Rand-Hendriksen

This looks to be an interesting event. I hope I can make it. We have been working on modifying WordPress to function as a full fledged CMS for some time now and it will be interesting to see what other people are doing. With some careful coding and proper theme design you can make sites based on WordPress that look and feel nothing like blogs yet have all the benefits of the platform. It is an exciting avenue of opportunity and I’d like to get in touch with other people who are working on similar projects.

  42. 42 Crunchy Carpets

Hi …myself and one other wordpresser would love to attend…newbies at all these ‘get togethers’

I’m so RELIEVED! I thought it was in the bloody morning! Much more civilized, blogger-friendly hours, these. Thank you for that courtesy.

I don’t have any talk prepared, but if anyone wants to fire me some questions about Wordpress.com, I’m happy to answer what I can.

  46. 46 Brad Cole

Sounds interesting. Myself and a friend are going to be there.

  47. 47 Rich

I will be there for sure.
