Hello Tazzu community members, I am writing this from the Cafe Trafiq, a beautiful coffee shop close to my apartment with free Internet Access ( Yay! ).

Tazzu’s March 26th Party

You guys are such a fun crowd, it was such a pleasure to meet you all last night at Frog and Firkin. I really enjoyed our conversations and learned a lot of new things; We should do this again.

We really missed Bernie, John Chow, Leah and some other members. I hope they can make it next time!

I actually got to meet some faces for the first time such as Bruce Byfield, Bob9999, Vadim, Camelia and her wonderful husband. One can never have too many good friends.

I still didn’t get a chance to have a good conversation with Bob9999 though. :)

Thank you so much for coming out last night, it was a blast.

Tazzu - safe & fun networking environment

Protecting the ForumsOne of the unique characteristics of Tazzu is the importance placed on maintaining a safe and fun environment for the members to network.

Previously, as a Moderator at a different networking forum, I watched helplessly while, over the course of 6 months, the forum became unhealthy and sadly deteriorated.

That particular forum was subjected daily to copious amounts of spam, trolls who incited members to absolute frustration, and bouts of all-out verbal war.

This situation could have been prevented if some basic rules and guidelines were not only set in place but also wisely, carefully and respectfully enforced.

Blue Fur Sighting

BlueFur.com is our major sponsor on Tazzu ™. They host our forum and provide all the wonderful bandwidth.

They also have a reputation for superb customer service, and they’ve got some snazzy hosting packages that I think are a web developer’s dream sandbox. They are well priced and well packaged. Here is a really cute YouTube commercial done by folks at Blue Fur, I think you should see it:

Look Ma! … RSS feeds

Good Morning Tazzu Members,

You have probably noticed by now that we have an RSS feed for our Forum. How is it working for you, any feedbacks? I think it would have been nice if we had RSS feeds for every forum category too.

Jen has also installed a nifty new mod which displays default images for members without avatars.

BlueFur.com - Little Monster, Big Heart

BlueFur.comI’m sitting here taking inventory of the past few days’ events, realizing that this week’s activities wouldn’t be complete without focusing the spotlight on a small hosting company based in Surrey BC:
~ BlueFur.com ~

Earlier, this week I had the pleasure of joining Gary Jones of BlueFur.com at a Networking Luncheon.

I’ve always thought of Gary as being very kind, but when the topic of BlueFur’s recent name change surfaced, I also saw in him a man of integrity. The opportunity to rant was presented to him, but he simply let it pass by. Few would have taken that road.

At the end of a delicious meal, when the bills were being handed out, Gary intercepted and paid for several of the guests including myself… which just now leads me to think I should have ordered dessert! ;)

Some Minor Bugs and Do I smell RSS?

Ok so turns out that there are some minor bugs on our blog:

  1. There are some IE6 Text formatting issues on a post’s comments
  2. When users try to make multiple comments on a blog post, they get this error “Sorry, you can only post a new comment once every 15 seconds. Slow down cowboy.” even if 14 seconds has past.

For Tazzu blog I have installed and customized the Wordpress K2 theme, which is not a stable release yet, but good enough, although seems like they haven’t been so keen on IE6 optimization.

I have also downloaded an RSS Feed for our forum which I am going to install, after some testing.
